You can't move the Documents and Settings folder, but you can use TweakUI for XP to move your My Documents and other selected folders to another location.

This setting is in My Computer, Special Folders in TweakUI

You can't move the Documents and Settings folder, but you can use TweakUI
for XP to move your My Documents and other selected folders to another
location.

You don't need any programm to change the location of the My Documents
folder.
Just right-click the My Documents icon on the desktop, choose properties and
change the name of the location which is given in one of the fields. (
C:\Documents and Setting\username\...... into D:\My Documents )
Now you will be asked to move all the items in the folders. Choose yes and
it's ready.

Success,

Jan.

You cannot and probably should not try to move the entire D&S folder.
However you can move entire individual profiles off the system drive. This
means that each user's documents, favorites, cookies, settings, etc., will
remain on a separate drive or partition regardless of the fate of the system
drive. The methods covered at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;322014

are strictly speaking for Win 2000, but I have been using them on several XP
Pro setups for months without problems.

There is more than one way to move 'My Documents' to another drive. But it's
important to know that 'My Documents' is the only shell folder that can be
moved from its Properties sheet. The OP wants to move other folders as well.
TweakUI is a safe way to do this, hence Doug's suggestion.

Actually entire profiles can be moved. Search this group for many posts and
details on this.

I go to Control Panel/System/Advanced/User Profiles, and then copy the
profile in question to the desired location, usually a data partition. Then
in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/ProfileList,
I edit the path.

As a check, one can re-name the profile in question under
$systemdrive$\D&S\username to make sure that things are working as desired.

Read the thread. Your reply was out of context (without the additional info).

I tried searching for actual documentation on this but
didn't find any.

Is there a nice simple way of achieving this? i.e. moving
the Documents and Settings folder to D:\
