Where can I post a question regarding Windows Vista Home Premium?
I believe that my question is simple . . .
Does Windows Vista Home Premium software have a partitioning utility?
I wish to partition a 320GB drive and Norton PartitionMagic is not
compatible (according to Prashanta.Kumar of their tech support department in
some other country).
Thanks,
Grant
Hi Grant,
Vista Home Premium does not have a partitioning application that can be used
from the desktop but, just like Windows XP you can partition your hard
drives when you perform the initial install and should also be able
partition other connected drives using the same procedure even after
installing the OS although it will destroy all data on the drive in
question.
Hope this helps

Here is a listing of the Vista newsgroups:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx
It is best to view and post to those newsgroups via your news reader
program. That way you don't have to register with Microsoft's Passport
program.

I did visit the ACRONIS website and discovered that one page states DD10 is
supported, another says nothing about VISTA. Accordingly, I emailed ACRONIS
asking for confirmation and or clarification. I will post their reply once
received.
Till then, thanks again!!

Run PartitionMagic from bootable media. Vista doesn't get a chance to
prevent it from running.
Vista has a problem with partitions created by PM, so it's not just an issue
of whether it will run under Vista. Don't use PM for Vista partitions until
they release a version that is Vista compatible.

With my ever increasing catalogue of Vista problems, this comes as no
surprise - though I don't fully understand why.
If anyone deserves a spanking, it's you. You should not be posting in
anything other than plain text. Not every news reader works with rich text
or HTML
---------------------------
You need a new newsreader. Time marches on. Not many use a typewriter
anymore. It's time to spruce up the old newsgroups with some nice text,
pictures, etc.
Can't wait.

Even for those of us who use a newsreader that *can* render html, many
of us choose to turn the facility off, because of the risk of the html
carrying malware.
Besides, most of us here are interested in content, not form. HTML
does nothing useful for me in Newsgroup postings.

My experience with Vista has been good, and btw, my catalog of problems with
XP is quite extensive.
Why would this surprise you? Vista is a new OS, PM is legacy software.
System level utilities are frequently in this kind of situation. They need
to be updated for the new OS.

The point being that we have made the choice. And that choice is text only
and my newsreader is so configured. As others have pointed out, HTML can
carry unwanted malware. It also uses vastly more server space, and many
servers insist on text only.
Your other mistake is to use your plain unmunged e-mail address in your
message. This betrays you as someone who is unfamiliar with even the basic
principles of computer security. I just hope you have a use for all that
viagra.

Ordinarily, nobody would care if you want to expose your computer to
spam and the dangers inherent in HTML email and news posts. After all,
it's your computer, and you are free to do to it whatever you like.
That's part of what makes America a great country, right?
However, for example, the bots that may infect your computer will infect
the computers of other people who aren't as bright as you and don't know
how to shield themselves from internet threats.
So why not lend a helping hand to your fellow computer users by adopting
safe and sensible computing practices (and urging others to do the same)?

After spending around 20 hours reading all the posts regarding partitioning
and other Vista maladies at the MS Vista newsgroup website, I decided to put
Vista on hold for a couple of years before making the jump. Till then, XP
Home is my new PC's O/S of choice.
Regarding Acronis Director Suite 10, it was truly difficult getting Acronis
to fully answer questions that are not clearly addressed or mentioned in
their FAQ's. One answer included Acronis' Yuri Sotnikov stating that I
would "...be able to convert your Windows Vista Operating System from FAT32
to NTFS file system, but not vice versa."
Receiving pre-sales support from Acronis via email (where I would expect
them to be fully accountable for what they state) is extremely difficult and
the results were mediocre at best. It took seven (7) emails sent via their
website to get complete answers to three (3) simple questions, and they
never fully answered the 3rd. It should not be difficult to imagine that
Acronis will not receive any business from me.
Well, I have a few other thoughts, but I do not want to leave the door open
too wide for those who may berate me as they do others.
Thanks to all of you whose generosity directed me to resolve issues
associated with my initial posting.
Regards,
Grant

Why should I send you a cheque (do try and spell it correctly) for anything.
It would cost you nothing to post correctly. You can either conform to the
accepted standards or be ignored. HTML adds absolutely nothing to your post
other than a totally unnecessary flashy sig line. Has your teacher not
taught you about proper netiquette yet?
If you insist on posting in HTML and risking sending malware (even if not
deliberately) then the killfile beckons.
