Themes Question

Whenever I change Themes I "lose" my Sound Scheme. The
combo box for the Sound Scheme is empty and I must re-select
MyDefaultScheme.
Any way of preventing this from happening??

Unlike Themes in Win9x and ME, themes in XP do not include presets for
sound schemes cursors, screensavers, etc. Instead, "themes" is a more
general term that refers to choosing a visual style - classic or XP. Sound
schemes, cursors schemes and screensavers need to be selected separately.

i dunno but u could just save your sound scheme then load it when u need
to. Save setting it all up again.

I do that. When I change Themes
the sound scheme remains but is not selected.

Sharon F. answered your question already. Sound schemes are not saved with
a visual theme when you save it. So when you apply a different visual
theme, you must either apply the default sound scheme again or make a new
sound scheme.

Actually, if you examine a saved .theme file (it's a textfile), you'll see the sound scheme is saved and (at least on my machine) reapplied. The sound files assigned to events are all the same, it's just the display name of the scheme that doesn't get restored when a saved theme is reapplied.

It's the default value of the registry key:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes"

that stores the name of the current sound scheme.

Now that I understand how this works I know
why I'm not getting any sounds when I change Themes.
In the Windows\Media folder I deleted all the .wav files
that are put there upon Windows installation. I then
created several folders under Windows\Media for my
personal sounds that I use for app events. When I change
Themes and since there are no .wav files in the Windows\Media
folder no sounds are generated and I must re-select
MyDefaultScheme from the combo box selections because
the combo box has no value.

When you apply a saved theme, the combo box for sound scheme will be blank, but the individual program events should have the saved .wav files assigned to them. Are you not seeing this behavior?
