My girlfriends computer, a toshiba laptop running win xp with latest
updates. When I hit ALT CTR DEL to taskmanager comes up showing the graphs
but NOT the tabs which would let me switch to processes and applications.(so
I can't close applications). She only has a disk which restores things to
the condition of the a new computer. Advice would be appreciated.

It (Task Manager) has somehow got into minimal mode (or whatever it's
called). I can't remember how to get out of it - I think it's something
to do with right-clicking in the grey border of what you _can_ see.

Double-clicking the border. Didn't take long to check...

She's running in what's called "Small Footprint Mode." To change back
and forth from this mode to regular mode, just double-click on the
border.
