Windows XP Home SP2

For some reason all of a sudden recently, when Windows starts up, my desktop
folder opens up. I have no idea why such batch program started running.

Can someone be kind enough to tell me how I can stop this from happening.
All I want is the display of my desktop when Windows starts up.

for that folder - go to the "Tools" menu and select folder options.

Go to the "View" tab, scroll down to about 5th from bottom- is "restore
previous windows folders at logon checked? if so, uncheck. I think this is
why that window might be open at logon- I think that is the one to remember
windows being open at startup...

otherwise you might have accidentally dragged something into your startup
folder
