When I open up the "My Conputer" icon on my desktop, and
double click on my C: drive, (note, I do not see the
proper drive icon either) I get the following error...

"Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure
system components"

I cannot browse my C:\ drive this way.

I have a d:\ drive that works fine, and has the proper
icon.

Any help is appreciated.

First thing to do is check in the root of C: for a file named autorun.inf (you
may want to make sure you have your folder options set to show hidden and
system files.) If found, rename it to disguise it, reboot, and see if things
work better.

THAT WAS IT!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, and post
your suggestion. It was exactly my problem. A little
thing like that bugged me for a week. After the Windows
XP upgrade, that was my only problem left that I have not
figured out.

Thanks again Don!

This newsgroup does work!

Glad you got it nailed down. Sometimes it's the little things that are the
most maddening. Happy computing ;-)
