.NET Framework

I have been prompted to upgrade to version 1.1. When I try to do this, the
installation is unsuccessful. I have tried to locate the .net framework in
the windows installer but cannot find it. Nor can I locate it on the remove
hardware/programs.

Can anyone advise me regarding:
a. Locating the original version!
b. Installing a completely fresh version if indeed the original setup has
disappeared into an abyss.
