XP SP3 - does everyone get it pushed to their machine?

I was at a friend's house today and he mentioned to me that he's
having trouble installed SP3.

I worked him through that, but now I notice that my machine has not
had SP3 "pushed" to me by Windows Automatic Updates. On August 13, I
had nine automatic updates installed: three security updates, a
cumulative security update, malicious software removal tool, security
updates for IE7 and OE, plus two other "Update for Windows XP,"
KB951072 and KB952287. Before that, I had two updates on July 9 and
six in June.

But no SP3.

I don't necessarily /want/ SP3, but I'm wondering why Automatic Update
isn't "pushing" it to me? Is it because I've religiously kept my
machine updated automatically?

By the way, second unrelated question - is there a way to tell what
TIME an update was installed on a computer? I have my updates set to
not install without operator intervention, and the August 13 ones did,
so I wanted to check what time that happened.

You are not offered the option to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 when you
use the Windows Update Web site or Automatic Updates

2. Check the windows update log for information about updates.

Okay, this is weird. I did nothing at all, and today when I started
my computer, I had the yellow shield reminder, and it's trying to push
SP3 to me. Why today, when it's been out for so much longer?

Now I'm worrying whether to install it or not though. I once had a
WGA mess and don't want to install SP3 if doing so will put me into
another two-day cycle of digging out of that.

Also, my work computer today had a SP3 install, which went great, but
then Windows Update pushed me to Microsoft Update, and I can't figure
out how to go back, and I can't figure out how to re-enable an
automatic update scenario where I control when/if an update installs.

Suggestions on the above?
