SP3 on CD Questions

Hi Everyone,

I am about to re-install Windows XP Professional on my computer. I went
ahead and ordered the Windows XP SP 3 CD-Rom from Microsoft, and it has
arrived.

My questions are:

Will the Windows XP SP 3 CD that Microsoft sent me also contain SP1 and SP2,
or do
these older service packs still have to be downloaded and installed
separately from the internet?

If I use the Windows XP SP 3 CD, will I be forced to install Internet
Explorer 7, or like in the “Windows Update” website, is there a box I can
uncheck to not install IE7 and just stay with IE6? The reason I ask this is
that I do not like IE7 (tried it when it first came out) and would much
rather just stick with IE6.

Yes, the SP3 upgrade package contains both.

No, you won't be forced downloading/installing IE7

Yes, you can do this.

IE7 is better and safer (and IE8 is in the pipeline)! Give it another try
and do some serious reading *prior* installing both SP3 and IE7.

Do not use Automatic/Windows Update for downloading/installing IE7!

Use this link instead:

Save the program to your desktop then install.

Activate Windows Update after installing IE7 to download/install pertinent
updates offered, including Root Certificates updates.

To uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE 6) follow these directions:

Start, Settings, Control Panel then click Add or Remove Programs, locate
IE7 and uninstall it.

If you upgraded to IE 7 *before* you applied SP3, you'll have to uninstall
SP3 first.

Your PC must be at least SP1 or SP2 level as SP3 will not
install on XP Gold. So if your Windows XP is the original
(without any service packs) CD, then after installing XP
install SP1 or SP2 (no need to install both) and then install
SP3.

If you have a Dial-up connection you can avoid
downloading SP2 by creating a "Slipstreamed" CD
that is created by using your "Gold" CD and the
SP3 CD.

You then use the Slipstreamed CD to install XP.
Need help on creating a slipstreamed CD, post back.

IE7 is not part of SP3.

He is running xp pro and you can install sp3 without having any of the other
service packs, I have done this on computers that did not have any service
paks on it.

You will have to have WinXP SP1 or SP2 installed to be able to install SP3,

IE7 is not included in SP3, whether you install it from the CD or Windows
Update.
