Hey all. I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition SP2 on my pc and
am now running into issues trying to update windows. Everytime I try to
download and install an update, the installation fails. It'll download the
update with no problem, but the moment it goes to install the update, it
stops and says "update installation failed". No error message. Any help here
would be appreciated!

Thanks,

TaurArian

See: Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new
Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Usually method one is sufficient but if necessary do method 2 as well.

Here ya go, Seth:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from
Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new
Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Do Method 1.
There's a later Version of the Windows Update Agent [WUA] that just
started rolling out and it's *supposed* to resolve that wups2.dll issue.
Time will tell.
You can grab the WUA from the links here and use the steps laid out to
get it installed:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/mowgreen/index.php?showentry=1172

If you're not sure if XP is 32 or 64 bits, then run
msinfo32
from Start > Run and click OK
Check the System Type.

EX: x86 = 32 bit
x64 = 64 bit

Thanks to both of you guys. All seems to be back up and running! SP3 now
