Automatic Windows update has been disabled in my Windows XP SP3. I went to
Services on my computer but whenever I cick on Start Automatic Updates, I get
error code 0X8024d007

So I am unable to get updates from microsoft updates as well. I also tried
Fix It but to no effect.
How do I restart Automatic Updates Service.

Reinstall the WU Service -

"start" and "run" then enter the following command:

%SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection
DefaultInstall 132 %SystemRoot%\inf\au.inf

0x8007041D ERROR_SERVICE_ REQUEST_ TIMEOUT
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion.

0x8024D007 WU_E_SETUP_REGISTRATION_FAILED
Windows Update Agent could not be updated because regsvr32.exe returned
an error.

To see which account RPC is using *right* click My Computer either on
the Desktop or Start Menu and choose Manage
Click the plus sign [expand] next to Services and Applications
Double left click on Services in the left frame
Scroll down to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Double click it to open it's Properties and click the Log On tab

*** Under ' Log on as: ' which option is marked ? ***
It should be marked as

This account: NTAuthority\Network Service

The Password and Confirm password fields should be showing 15 characters
in the form of dots. They can *not* be copied nor should you be able to
edit either field.

If the Logon is set to Local, when was the system last scanned for the
presence of malware ?
