Error Code: 0x80246008

ok--replaced a Ghost image with one created 3 weeks ago, which WAS updating
automatically on a regular basis up until then.
Now I have replaced Windows Volume by that same image again. The Update
service appears to work but the only message I get is "Unable to install
update"
NOTHING has changed on the pc ( Image was made with Norton Ghost) ALL
settings have been checked again.
I want an easy fix, as I can't even download manually.
Not interested in chasing all over the net for this.
Something external to the pc connected to the MS Update service, must have
changed as the Ghost image was downloading/updating fine a month ago. Help

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SySTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control|BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup
I found it missing. I looked at another pc that works and found that in
this key was the following: BITS_metadatta REG_MULTI_SZ C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network|Downloader\*
I put that in and it worked like a charm!"

FilesNotToBackUp is a subkey of
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore.
If you really don't have FilesNotToBackUp (all one word - are you sure you
are looking in the right place?) then create it as a subkey of BackupRestore
(NOT a value), then create a value BITS_metadata for the new subkey.

You could paste that into notepad, save it as temp.reg say on your desktop,
and import it into your registry by double clicking on the filename.
Modify the registry at your own risk, usual disclaimer, etc, etc.

No I really don't have that key -- I do have the BackUprestore, but the only
sub-folder is "DLL's" or similar--but will try a copy paste as you suggest--I
reckon 70% of the so-called registry alterations for XP are completely
different for Win 2000--many people say they are similar--no way Hose !
.Anyway how come that key disappeared spontaneously from a Ghost image?
