Error code 0x2B08 - can't install SQL Server SP2 Update (KB960089)

For some reason, whenever Windows or I tries to install Security Update for
SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB960089), it says the installation has
failed. I tried downloading SP2 for SQL Server 2005, and only one part of SQL
Server which I cannot recall was updated to SP2. I have tried for many months
to install the security update for SP2, but it still cannot update. When I
look at the update history for theses attempted updates, I find the error
code 0x2B08.

I am not sure what SQL Server does, or if I need it, as I never use it
(Well, at least never directly, I think.) It would be greatly appreciated if
someone could help me fix this problem on my Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

I also think that I installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP after many tries
trying to install KB960089.

As well, whenever I try to run SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting, I get a
message saying that SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting has encountered a
problem and needs to close.

Suggest you first check to ensure that all services that include SQL in
them are not showing as disabled in the Services console.
*Right* click My Computer either on the Desktop or Start Menu, choose
Manage. You'll find Services in the left frame under Services and
Applications. The services will show in the right frame when you click
on Services.

2B08 An invalid or unrecognized service type was found in the flowspec.

That appears to correlate to the message you've seen. First try to Start
any SQL service that is not currently running and then set said Services
to Automatic on Startup. Now try the installation.

If that doesn't resolve the installation issues then it may mean that
something is damaged in regards to SQL, Chocolitz58.
If so, perhaps you should post to an SQL newsgroup and see if this can
be repaired without a format and reinstall:

You're mowst welcome. I see your new post on the SQL NG but no response
as yet. Hang in there and hopefully a knowledgeable person will provide
some assistance.
