The problem sits with the Catroot2 folder but in Vista you need to rename it
the old DOS way.
In Accessories go to Command prompt, and right click, run as Administrator.
net stop cryptsvc
press enter and wait for the service to stop.
type
cd\
press enter.
type
cd windows\system32
press enter
type
ren catroot2 catroot
reboot
Go to Microsoft download centre and manually download one problem update.
Install this. That puts a new Catroot2 folder onto the PC.
Window sUPdate now works properly for all other updates.
