Ditto re the above. I'm getting the same error with updates and Microsoft no
help at all. Any assistance would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

I am quite impresed with myself as I have sorted this without a solution from
Microsoft.

The problem sits with the Catroot2 folder but in Vista you need to rename it
the old DOS way.

In Accessories go to Command prompt, and right click, run as Administrator.

net stop cryptsvc

press enter and wait for the service to stop.

type

cd\

press enter.

type

cd windows\system32

press enter

type

ren catroot2 catroot

reboot

Go to Microsoft download centre and manually download one problem update.
Install this. That puts a new Catroot2 folder onto the PC.

Window sUPdate now works properly for all other updates.
