My new computer came with Windows XP Home and now I find
that I need Professional to use some of my software. Is
there a patch (or download of some sort) to migrate from a
Windows XP Home version to Windows XP Professional? Or,
do I have to re-install the OS?

Thank you!

Jane;
There is no patch or download.
You need to buy Windows XP Pro upgrade about $200.

Or contact the computer manufacturer to see if you can get the upgrade
from them.
