I had to uninstall Windows Defender and reinstall it and ever since, when I
try to update the program I am met with the following message:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80004002. No such
interface supported.

I have tried following the steps laid out in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105, but this has not solved the
problem at all. Each attempt to manually update Defender results in the same
message.

Can anyone please advise?

See this KB article which has many suggestions & tips:

How to troubleshoot definition update issues for Windows Defender Beta2:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918355

An update is available for Windows Defender Beta2 that resolves this issue for most users. See the Defender newsgroups.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2 support and comments. This is not one of them.

I'm not sure why, but it toook a number of attempts to get Defender updated
via the Windows Update procedure?? But, I'm now happy to report that
Defender seems to be running normally again and updating its definitions
automatically once again.

I'm grateful to all who answered my plea!!!

Hi to all who are struggling without any clue..

ControlPanel -> Automatic updates

Select any option other than "turn off automatic updates"
click ok

Now open windows defender and update.
