Just an FYI..
I have read messages in this forum about it taking a long time to receive
the free SP2 Cd from MS.
I received an SP2 update CD in the mail from MS just 4 days after I filled
out the web page order form ( I'm in the northeast US) . That's what I call
service!

Wonderful! Now make sure your system is prepared for SP2 by checking out
the information on the Windows Update website. Don't install it before you
do!

Thanks for the advice about slipstreaming SP2 and XP.

Unfortunately my OEM (Medion Germany, www.medion.com and
www.medionusa.com ) made it blatantly clear on the phone
that "old" (=2 years) XP PCs will not be supported with new SP2
compatible drivers/softw.

It's a pitty I'm left in the cold by a company that does show an XP SP2
logo on its website that only links to MS (Medion does
not provide updated SP2 drivers for most of it "older" XP PCs)

The other unfortunate fact remains that Microsoft
charges 2X as much in Europe (50 Euro per incident =
US $60+ tax!) for
Paid Incident Support ($35 in the US)

Wages/living standards are roughly equal,
Why is MS charging *twice as much for its support here in Europe?
Basically it's the same service.

AS I said, even with our faults, you'd be welcome to become
an American.

| MS Tech support is provided locally here
| (with some transfer between Belgium-Holland) -
| the support techn was native Dutch, which may indeed
explain
| the high PPI fee (about US$ 60 plus 21% VAT/tax)
