Cant see what this has to do with windowsupdate?
If you have a problem with IE7, then try the below

Please note - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx

IE7 questions should be posted to the Internet Explorer General newsgroup as
below -

In your Newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you need to use the Web Interface -
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you don't know how to classify it how do you know how to classify it? So
what happened last? Oh I remember now, it was an update from MS.

So where in your original thread do you mention anything about an 'update'?
I am afraid I am no clairvoyant - I am still not a clairvoyant.
Updates are given out every Black Tuesday - to which batch do you refer?
And which KB number do you think is responsible.
If you give no info or background then you will get no solution other than
to direct you to a group that may be able to help.
Read the below which may help with your posting

Well, could it be that IE 7 is downloaded and installed as an update
and this is the newsgroup to discuss updates? If another update
modified the user interface in some regard, wouldn't this be the
newsgroup to discuss it in?

Agreed 100 percent. I also found the missing text menu bar, in it's
traditional location at the top of the screen, to be especially
distracting. Sadly, it appears that menu bar is entirely gone in Vista
(no option to turn it off and on as in IE7 with XP).

Sadly, that's not how it works. Microsoft decides how something should
be done and the entire computer world must simply accept and comply
with that decision.
