I have downloaded the windows update, Internet Explorer
service pack 6 but cannot complete it's installation. I
get this message: "Setup was unable to install all the
components. Please close all applications and try running
Setup again. Run: ie6setup.exe from the C:\WINDOWS|windows
update setup files folder."
There are no applications running that I know of....I have
tried to install and can only install about 75%.
Please help.

Try the following:

1.Delete the contents of the "Windows Update Setup Files" folder located in
the c:\windows directory
2. Connect to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp
download and SAVE files to your desktop.
3. Install Internet Explorer from the desktop

If the update fails outside of Windows Update then it's a problem with
Internet Explorer not Windows Update.
