windows or microsoft update

can anyone help please .I am trying to update windows.It is supposed to
update automatically and is set to do so , but is not.Trying to update
manually but I keep getting - error OX80248007. Cannot find any reference
to this error message.
I operate on XP service pack 2

I am having a similar problem, after much searching on the MS sites I
discovered that the Registration Key had been disbled by Microsoft.
Eventually found my way to the 'update registration details page, downloaded
the file filed in the details from the sticker attached to the laptop aand wa
sbooted out, invited to telephone to register - but no one picks up the phone.

Meanwhile I continue to get alerts that updates are ready it is totally
bizzar. The whole system and fear of competitors makes the MS process so
frustrating -- but too late they have driven out all meanigful competitors.

Bit of a rant and no solution but you will see others are also suffering--
