ERROR_INTERNET_CONNECTION_ABORTED - The connection with the server has been
terminated.

To get more help on proxycfg if you need to configure it to use a proxy
server or Internet Explorer's settings: proxycfg -?

If you don't have a proxy, you will need status Direct access (no proxy
server).
To set direct access: proxycfg -d

I too am getting the 0x80072EDF error when trying to update windows. This is
a new problem ... never had any problem updating before.

I believe I have always been on direct access -- I am standalone on Comcast
broadband, I have tried the proxycfg -d did not work.

I have been through the recommended Internet Options Connections & Security
recommended scenario's.

Is there any way to reset my system back to some earlier setting other than
the windows "System Restore" If not would that procedure reset me back to
where I was (whatever that is)

This also happens now when I try to play a jigsaw puzzle game I have been
doing everyday for years with no problem. I can get on the site but when it
tries to download the puzzle it says check internet connection. So I leave
the site and go to another site and my connection works good. Without having
to reconnect. That site and windows update site is the only 2 sites I have
trouble with.

I tried exiting my anti-virus program (Micro Trends "PC-cillin Internet
Security 2006") in an effort to get around the 0x800072EFD error. This was
successful so I went to Trend Micro for help in determining which of my
settings were causing the problem.

They suggested that I do the following even though I had not made any
changes to my Micro Trend installation.
~~~~~~~
To address your concerns, you may try using the other firewall profiles to
see if which one will best suit your connection.
1. On the PC-cillin Internet Security main window, click NETWORK SECURITY >
Firewall Profiles.
2. Select the PROTECT MY COMPUTER from INTERNET ATTACKS (This should have a
CHECK MARK)
3. Choose a profile setting from the current profile box based on your
computer environment.(HOME NETWORK)
4. Click Apply, then double click on the HOME NETWORK under MANAGE PROFILE.
5. Go to the EXCEPTIONS TAB and put a check on the following :
a. OUTGOING MASS MESSAGE
b. OUTGOING MESSAGES
c. INCOMMING MESSAGE
d. WEB SERVICES
6. Click on ok and then apply.
7. Try to check if you will be having the same problem.
~~~~~~~~~

The above changes seem to have rersolved my problem with Windowsupdate. Now
all we have to do is wait to see if I get updates automatically as I did
before I started getting the error.

FYI my Profile in PC-cillin had always been set at "Direct Connection"
