This is a problem with my daughter's computer. the operating system is
windows XP.
When I click on "windows update" on Tools menue a webpage opens which reads:
"Use your Start menu to check for updates"
and it shows in graphic to click on Start and then click on 'all programs'
and then 'windows update'.
I follow the instructions but the same webpage opens with the same above
message.
Any idea why I cannot access the windows update by clicking the windows
update option on the tools menu (or in fact any other way) in that computer?
I note that the webpage which opens and shows the above message has the
followuing URL ddress:
http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us
It seems that this is for 'vista' not 'xp'. why this page opens not the
usual windows update page?
thanks.
Can you go to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updates
<http://www.update.microsoft.com>
Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs?
I hope this post is helpful.
Let us know how it works ºut.
Good luck

I cannot even go that far to have "Express" clickable option. That is the
page I am after to open.

Hopefully that corrects the misleading information about the OS that is
being reported to the website.

Vista on the other hand, doesn't access the website and is all done through
the control panel.
