Examining your sentence starting with "P A Bear says"...

Given I believe you mean that you know some others (and yourself) that have
*not* been offered Vista SP1 by automatic updates, then I have to ask if you
have read the Microsoft KB article:

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 [may not be] available for
installation from Windows Update and is not offered by
Automatic Updates
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

,,, also posted by PA Bear? Have you further confirmed that causes 1-7 do
not apply to your situation? Have you discovered anything else?

Have you tried to get free technical support from those who created not only
the service pack in question, but the operating system it is being applied
to - given that it is freely offered to you for problems surrounding SP1?

Windows Vista Solution Center
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732#tab0

Specifically:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?prid=11274&gprid=500921

Might I suggest that you check out and know the following pages well:

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 - Things to Know Before You Download:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb968859.aspx

Windows Vista Help: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1):
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/Help/133c8953-c9cd-4fa5-8883-03e91bb6f2021033.mspx

As those pages will make sure that the problem is not something already
solved in those pages and so you can tell the people you contact at
Microsoft using the link above that you have indeed checked those things
(I'd suggest printing those pages and going through each problem noted with
Vista SP1 and its installation and confirming it should not be a problem on
your system and checking that item off the list and then - if you go through
them all - using that list to explain to the Microsoft Tech Support what you
have tried and know is not your problem. It is better - for all parties
involved - if the one experiencing the issue understand it as well as
possible before calling. Shortens the troubleshooting time immensely as
well as the one experiencing the issue has more familiarity with the tasks
they may be asked to do after checking into it at their own pace of
learning.)

Then - after your problem is resolved or not, even during the resolution
(write things down) - I highly suggest you come back here and post your
entire situation and the end-solution for the benefit and reading of
everyone.

Yes I have called Microsoft with still no help.. I have and I believe there

called Microsoft they downloaded for me kb 947821 then Microsoft person told
me that would clear it up and then I should see SP1 which of course I didn't
and still don't have SP1 in my update history... so i said well maybe after
this months downloads which happeded this evening maybe I would see it and
again I was disappointed because I still don't have SP1 show up on my
Automatic Updates in my Microsoft update.. so my question is when will I get
it or will I be getting it in my Windows Update? I don't want to try the
standalone for SP1 because Microsoft says they strongly recommend us to wait
for Windows Update and again when is it going to show up on my Windows
Update?? And I know there are many others that still don't have SP! and again
my question is will I be getting my SP! in my Windows update... I have
checked over the web site and checked over it to see what is wrong.. waiting
for a call back from Microsoft but this is frustrating NOT getting SP1 to
show up on my Windows Update.

I have run the readiness tool and all is OK. I have checked all possible
solutions offered about the error message. I have also made sure all my dell
tools and drivers have the latest versions. I have run the dell tools to
evaluate memory, display and other device driver tests.

Is there just a simple tool that would tell a user what driver or patch is
missing that keeps the downloaded SP1 release from being installed?

Thanks, in advance.

Using a Toshiba Satellite A215, just installed the SP1 and my audio driver
now says "No Audio Output Device is installed."

Could someone please fix this? I'm going back to a system restore, but it's
quite annoying to have these obvious bugs in a service pack. I expect more
from Microsoft.

Did Windows Update offer Vista SP1 or did you choose to install it manually?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running when you installed SP1?

I have it set up so that Windows Update asks me before it installs anything,
but it first told me to install the important update by placing the little
icon at the bottom of the screen.

I have AVG, Avast and Spybot running. No other firewall or security suites
were running at the time of the install, other than Defender.

You have two (2) anti-virus applications installed and loading at boot *and*
they were both running when you attempted to install SP1? No wonder the
install failed!

Uninstall either AVG or Avast via Add/Remove Programs & reboot.

Disable Spybot Tea Timer, if enabled. See
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=32409

Now try the installation again. If no joy, open a free support incident.

Hello every body i have the solution and for me all its ok that good so:
first : right click on computer and choose manage you arrive on computer
management go to services and applications and double click, now you arrive
on SERVICES and WMI Control now double click SERVICES downwards you ll see
Windows Update (just select it ) after on your left at the top you Can See
START THE SERVICE and under STOP THE SERVICE here you click on STOP THE
SERVICE, it's not all, go in control panel and rest on the control panel home
and no classic view, click on security and nothing else when you have do
that you can see Windows Update and under (TURN AUTOMATIC UPDATING ON OR OFF
click here, when you arrive at "choose how windows can install updates"
CHOOSE NEVER CHECK FOR UPDATES be patient the end it's soon. Now you go
C:/windows/SoftwareDistribution/DataStore and inside this folder delete all
(Text, Folder etc.. Be careful don't delete the folder "DataStore" just all
inside this folder. The last operation the way is has meadows not much the
same C:/windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download and again open this folder and
delete all inside. Before restart automatic uptdate in control panel/security
and start the windows update in computer management run this
Windows6.0-KB947562-x86
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=49aa7826-8543-4f24-8f88-46e454df3063
If the first time the uptdate don't pass try another time but delete inside
folder's download and folder's datastore and normaly that pass and if it's ok
go control panel/security/turn automatic uptdate and choose install update
automatically after right click on computer ,manage and choose service look
for windows update 1click on and at the lef top click start. Now Play
Windows update and normaly all play for SP1

I had the same problem and called Dell since I have a Dell computer. They
told me that I should not download this update from Windows. In about 15
days Dell is sending an e-mail to all their registered customers with a
proper upload and I shold wait for that to come and download their version.
Apparently after downloading this Service Pack through Windows Update, you
get an entire new set of problems. Fun, since this is the third time my
computer has crashed and I've lost everything since last November when I
purchased it. I'm learning a lot though. Get a good backup system if you
have Vista.

Hi

For those of you who do not have Vista SP1 showing in your Installed
Updates...

First, this is not uncommon, you may have SP1 installed and it doesn't show
in your Installed Updates list.
Go to Control Panel and open the System applet, and at the top in "Windows
Edition", if you have SP1 installed it will say so in this area.
This has caught a number of users off guard since it doesn't always show up
as an Installed Update even tho it is installed.
