Unlike many other people I had no problems with downloading and installing
the 5 critical updates of April 13, 2004.
However when I checked the Event Viewer (in Administrative Tools) I could
see a list of warnings with EventID 256 in the Application Log. These events
occur only when Windows 2000 is (re)started.
The source of the event is PlugPlayManager and the description says :
" Timed out sending notification of device interface change to window of ""
". The effect is that on the login window an hourglass is shown during two
or three seconds. Afterwards, everything behaves normally.

Although the latest windows update installs 5 updates, I found out that the
problem is due to the KB835732 update.

To be sure that there is no interference with any application, I restored a
"clean" windows 2000 SP4 backup (without applications). After the KB835732
update the same events happened again at startup.

I have also another computer with Windows XP Pro, and here the update causes
no warnings at startup. So, perhaps it's only a win2k problem...?

Is there anybody who finds the same behaviour (check the Application Log in
the Event Viewer), or even better, who knows how this (small) problem can
be solved.

I don´t know if You have already solved this, but here we go...

Says You can ignore it, but I managet to get rid of these by disabling unused IDE Channels from Device manager.
Just change "Auto Detection" to "None" in Advanced Settings Tab on IDE Channel Properties (on both channels, Primary and Secondary) and reboot.
