Ever since the the update 817787 "Security Update for
Windows Media Player" (or similar name since I have the
name in Swedish), it seems not to be able to be installed
correctly. Every time I go to Windows Update, it is there
telling me it needs to be installed.

Every time the process tells me that it is correctly
installed, and the "Show previous installations" (also
translated back from Swedish) tells me that it has been
installed correctly - at least a douzen times... However,
it does not show up in the Add/Remove programs...

What is going wrong, how can I be certain that it is
correctly installed; and then why does Windows Update
still tell me it needs to be installed?

I have manually reinstalled the Windows Update components.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to what is wrong
and/or how to remedy!

Ingemar

I will try this suggestion:
From: "David Herman (507119)" <big_...@hotmail.com>
Subject: Re: 811493 requires daily install

If you go to Add/Remove programs and remove 811493, then reboot visit the
Windows Update web site. It will want to download the file once more and
install it, this time it shouldn't keep reappearing after this. Let me know
how it goes.

Hi Art,

Well that was exactly what I was attempting to do, but as
I said, that hotfix doens't show in the Add/Remove, so I
can't de-install and download it again!

If you have a similar problem, although with another fix,
I do not know why this is not more know and in the Q&A.

David Herman's fix worked for me. Hope it works for 817787 also.
