This was a response in a previous posts regarding Windows Update Error
"80245003". If you follow it Exactly, it WORKS!!!!!
All you do is Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder (it will be recreated
next time you visit WU again) You will lose all the info in your "View Update
History", but ALL your Updates can still be viewed in the "Installed Updates"
Folder. From "Windows Update", just click on "View Update History" - then
click on "go to Installed Updates" (or, Control Panel/Programs/Programs and
Features/Installed Updates).

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Finally if you want to force a detection cycle in AU then close IE
Now click on Start and select Run
Type wuauclt.exe /detectnow in the Open box and click OK
Try the Windows Update again

Both XP and Vista. BUT, the SoftwareDistribution folder does not need to
be deleted. Deleting the folder also deletes the History shown on the
Windows/Microsoft Update sites.
It's a redirect issue caused by files in WuRedir

Show hidden files, folders, and system files
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html#winxp ]
and then, using *Windows Explorer*, navigate to
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribtution\WuRedir
Open WuRedir and delete the contents or drag the folder to the Recycle Bin
Close the window
Initiate a manual visit to Windows Update and the folder will be
recreated/repopulated with, hopefully, the correct redirect files.
