You cannot download updates when you access the Windows Update Web site from a Windows
XP-based computer that is behind a firewall or a proxy server

[Error number: 0x80244017], [Error number: 0x80244018], [Error number: 0x80244019], [Error

John Dough posted:
"I ran proxycfg and it showed I was still setup for a proxy - even though in IE it showed
I wasn't using one.
Running "proxycfg -d" fixed it all up."

Another user reported that clearing all cookies and temporary internet files solved his
problem and he was then able to install the update.

proxycfg -d worked for me too, but not immediately. I logged in the next day
and was able to install the updates.

Weird that this is the only server on the LAN that had the problem - 8
others update ok.

Thanks for the reply.

I cured this by running proxycfg -d, deleting Temp Internet Files & Cookies
(as advised) and then checking the "Automatically Detect Settings" box in IE6
LAN Connections. No boxes were ticked.
Think it was the last item that did it.
