When I click on 'check for updates for your computer'
to manually check for updates, I receive an error message saying...
WINDOWS COULD NOT SEARCH FOR NEW UPDATES
Error(s) found:
Code 800B0100 Get Help
I click on 'get help' and error code 800B0100 is NOT listed.
I have 'googled' the error code and have found some others with the same
problem, but none had yet gotten results. So, I really don't expect to
either, but I thought I would at least try. VERY frustrating.
What do you get if you enter in a cmd window:
net helpmsg 256

Try a web search?
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1012881&SiteID=25
(via Live Search for
(0x800b0100 OR 800b0100) MSFT site:microsoft.com
)
Most of the hits from the above search were contained in the results
of a WGA diagnostic report. I think the above link shows you where
those users probably got that diagnostic tool. Try it and see if it
can improve your symptom decription.
Also you may get some other ideas by reading the discussions that the
above query brings up. The syntax should be valid for Google as well
as Live Search.
Good luck

I also googled looking for solutions and also contacted support services. A technician also had me try a couple things which didn't work, and after reporting my results, I haven't heard back. I contacted technical support from the company that made my computer, and they told me that Microsoft apparently hasn't come up with a fix for this problem, yet. We may be waiting awhile.
