Twice I have had to reformat my computer (XP Home).
After downloading all the available updates at the Update
site, I noticed that my Scanner and Camera Wizard was
missing, along with the functionality that the use of
that wizard provides.

This specifically occurred after downloading:
Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands
(KB828026) and Flaw In Windows Media Player May Allow
Media Library Access (819639)

I am not sure which of the two caused the problem because
the second time I reformatted, I intentionally did not
download either those two updates during the second
reformat. And yes, I the second time around the Camera
and Scanner Wizard was installed.

Have there been any problems reported with this wizard
missing after SP2 has been installed?

Have you tried reinstalling the application after installing the updates?

Is the application compatible with SP2?

It is not an application, per se, but rather it is a
wizard that comes with XP. (Like the many other wizards
built in to XP) It is essentially a "plug and play"
issue and apparently makes media cards come up on the pop-
up window as "music files". As far as I know, there is
no way to reinstall wizards. Microsoft does have a
repair tool for this wizard, but it did not work in this
case.

OIC. You did not find Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel [>Printers and
other hardware]? Plugging in the device didn't automatically start the
Wizard? Do you always use the same USB port for the device?

No, I've not seen any correlation between WMP updates and the Scanner and
Camera Wizard. There is evidence however that a recent RealPlayer update
affected the wizard and that removing the update (or RealPlayer) fixed the
problem.

Similarly, I've not (yet) seen any correlation between WinXP SP2 and Wizard
functionality. You might try posting to microsoft.public.windowsxp.photos
newsgroup.

===============
My Scanners and Cameras applet is still there in the Control Panel. No
problem at all.
