Is it just me, or did Windows Update go AWOL?
I get the error 0x800A138F when I try and update, and
have emptied the folders like it said in the online help.
Anything else I can do?

Hi,

I'd this error too recently (I suspect it's after I'd installed a security
update).

I've solved that by deleting cookies, files in Temporay Internet Files
folder and History files trough the Internet Options (general tab) in
Control Panel.

After having tried many solutions that succeeded to others
users but not to me (see below), I succeeded, like Jean of
Belgium, by deleting cookies and temporary internet files
(control panel\Internet options, tab gene). Very strange !

I got this same error yesterday (12-13-03) and again
today. I have run windows xp setup repair option with no
change. Can we all be having the same problem with the
SSL connection to the MS update server?

All of the suggested fixes have been done or verified as
correct.

What else is there????

Look in your log file and see exactly what your real

should all be there.Hope this helps.Thierry

Well, none of those things worked for me...
I've deleted the cookies, temporary files, cleared out
the folder like it said to, etc.
Should I try reinstalling IE?

Hi,

Before those deletions i'd deleted all files in <program
files>\WindowsUpdate (excepted the iuhist.xml file, as often recommended) as
a first try to resolve the problem.
Perhaps this step is necessary before deletions of Cookies,TIF and History
files.

Hi Cody,

In order to troubleshoot error 0x800A138F we need to look for the error
number in the log file.

To view the Windows Update.log file.

Copy and paste "%windir%\windows update.log" (w/o the quotes)
into the Internet Explorer address bar and hit Enter.

Scroll down to the current date and look for the error being reported.

Next, Look for the error message in the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

Please try the suggestions listed.

**If error persists please create a new post with the error message from the
Windows Update.log file in the subject line.

tried all the suggestions from the posts so far,
including language chanage and the https prefix change.
Also followed all of the suggestions on the
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/0x800A138F.htm
page, the windows udpate.log line at which I have an
error is:
2003-12-22 16:03:56 00:03:56 Error IUENGINE
Querying software update catalog from
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/getmanifest.asp
(Error 0x800C0005)

Any further suggestions?

Did you check "Internet Options," "Connections," "LAN Settings" and make
sure the check boxes for "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic
configuration script" are not selected? This very commonly gives the
0x800C0005 error.

I have the same problem. None of the fixes so far have
worked. I've been able to download the latest critical fix
through the MS download center, but the problem still
hasn't been resolved.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
