XP pro sp2, ie 7
I cannot install this update, nor the corrected update. Some prerequisite
is missing, but I cannot see what that is.
Any ideas?
thanks, Sue

Hello Sue,

The error codes are useful when you view the %systemroot%\windowsupdate.log
file.

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

and then click OK.

Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error
code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install.

If appropriate copy and paste the error codes into this thread so someone
may be able to assist you.

On the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other
suggestions by searching the Newsgroup.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093>

Also check Windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of
update ie KB948465) and post the contents of the failed update.
This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.

See the "How to obtain help" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958470

PS: Why isn't WinXP SP3 installed yet? After 12 April 2010, your computer
will NOT be offered any further critical security updates nor will Windows
Update website be available until and unless you get SP3 installed.

I think that is yet to be decided. I know that is what MS has said but,
the public is still out on the issue. It could be that public pressure
will help to extend the support time. Win7 does not look much better to
me than Vista which IMO is a dog.

Nevertheless, the WinXP computer will NOT be offered any critical security
updates nor will Windows Update website be available after 12 April 2010
