The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is
not running:
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install
high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more
quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with
troubleshooting, if needed)
ie...All Three of the above have been enabled and started; and yet, Windows
Update still will not run
Please advise what next is to be done

I did all that you suggested and found I have the same result, ie...the same
error message and text preiously posted --- error number appears above
Note: This problem started immediately after what is launched by clicking
`Start+Microsoft Update' instead of `Start+Windows Update' was recently
changed and now has a new screen interface.
Please review/advise me further
Thank You
First follow trough the steps described in the article below and check all
the settings for BITS and AU service:
You may receive an error message that contains the "0x8DDD0018" code or the
"0x80246008" code when you try to download updates from the Microsoft
Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910337
Then download Windows Update Agent from the following link:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264
Run the tool from your computer with the following command:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
After that re-register the Windows Update files:
- Start/Run, type cmd
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml2.dll /s
regsvr32 msxml3.dll /s
regsvr32 urlmon.dll /s
net start wuauserv
regsvr32 softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 jscript.dll /s
Then restart your computer.
Regards,
Anton Pegan

Can you give me any simpler instructions?
Note: I do have the sense my problem is/has been caused by spyware which I
believe I have now removed from my computer by my download, use and running
of CounterSpy, Spyware Doctor and Zone Alarm Pro [forty-seven (47) spyware
have now been removed]; however, I am still receiving the same Error message
as before and still I can not access either the Microsoft Update or the
Windows Update website
Thank You For Your Replies
Thank You Again for the Assistance
To Correct for the Subject: Error Message:
---------------------------------------------------------
Left-click `Start+Run' and type: `%windir%\system32\services.msc' and
left-click `OK'
Verify/Change The Following To Be with the Settings Listed Below:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install
high-priority updates for your computer)
Settings: Status: Started - Startup Type: Automatic
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more
quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Settings: Status: Blank = Not Started - Startup Type: Manual
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with
troubleshooting, if needed)
Settings: Status: Started - Startup Type: Automatic
Then, Close Services (Local)
Restart the computer to record the above Settings in the Registry
After Restarting the computer, you may wish again to Open Services (Local)
and confirm the above stated Settings are in place/recorded and, if so,
after confirming, close Services (Local)
Thence, left-click `Start+Microsoft Update' or `Start+Windows Update' to
access the current updates posted on the Microsoft Update website which are
available for the computer
