Hi,
I upgrade from XP (all SP and Critical updates
installed) to Vista Ultimate release version. Following the instructions, I
attempted to download the latest updates from Windows Update. I receive the
following error: "Windows could not search for new updates. Code 8024402C.
I have tried several fixes suggested in the "get help" areas with no luck.
Any one had this problem and found a solution?

Hi Alexandra,

Same problem. No fix found. I am also getting some driver problems with USB
based disks. It looks like it tries to connect to WU, fails and hence won't
load the driver. Very frustrating.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Brian

I think I ll wait until I come back to the Office tuesday, I think there is a
GOP problem I ll ask the admin to put my laptop out of it.

I tried to load any update from the Windows Update Catalog and it doesn't
work actually for Windows Vista. I think Microsoft and all the third party
are ready for the 1st of February 2007 and not before.

I have a the soundcard not working well too

Cheers
Alexandre

I have the same issue, receiving 8024402C when I try to update Vista Ultimate
after upgrading from XP. I have tried all knowledge base suggestions for 1)
Windows Update error 8024402C (appears to be for XP) and 2) Windows Update
error 8024402c or 8009000b. Neither provided a solution. I then went into
group policy settings for local machine to ensure Windows updates were being
allowed under Computer Configuration, which I was able to change to enable
but that did not resolve the issue either. There must be some group policy
setting though, because I am not able to change the Windows Update settings
from there current state of Automatically at 5:00 am (grayed out, won't allow
change).

After 5 weeks intermittantly troubleshooting the Windows Update 8024402C
error I finally fixed it. I noticed in the Windows Update log that the
computer was trying to get its update from httP://sussrv and not
http://update .microsoft.com. Also noticed that on the Windows Update window
it said You receive updates: Provided by your system administrator, which was
not the case.

I remebered that this problem did not occur until I joined the domain so I
started to look at the GPO's more closely than I did before. In Active
directory Users and Computers>Right click on Domain>Properties>Group Policy
Tab> there was a default domain policy.

I opened the default domain policy up and selected Computer
Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Windows
Update>Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Service Location was set to enabled
and in the windows was the setting http://sussrv. I set the policy to Not
configured and updated the domain security policy and restarted my computer.
I then was able to perform the Windows Update with no issues and the You
Receive Updates section had changed.

I first had ruled out any DNS issues by running an NSLOOKUP against
update.microsoft.com, proxy or firewall setting issues. Bottom line is to
look at the Windows Update log and see why it cannot receive updates.

My issue seems to have been related to domain policies. When I took the PC
out of the domain, the issue went away. Of course, I then had to call IT
infrastructure to put the PC back in the domain later... :-)

Thats what I was saying in the thread, my issues was because of a group
policy after I joined the domain. Does your IT department have a WSUS server
or disable end users from installing windows update? If so this why you get
the error. They either need to look at a policy configured for no Windows
updates either in your OU or the default domain group policy.

I they create a test OU and move your account in it and you still have the
problem then the policy is coming from a group policy at the domain level.
