Unable to install KB842773

Need Help-

I have WinXP Professional SP1 and have been Unable to install Update for
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1
(KB842773).

The installation failure error code is Error Code: 0x80070002.

Following is the KB842773.log

Please help me. I have wasted hours and hours trying to fix this myself.

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x80070002 error
This error may occur if there is a content mismatch in the DataStore folder.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me. I
followed the steps very carefully, but after trying to install the KB842773
update, an error message came up up stating "KB842773 Setup Error". "The
system cannot find the file specified". I clicked "OK" and another error
message came up stateing "KB842773 Setup Error". "KB842773 installation did
not complete"

Any other advise you have would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried downloading and installing it manually?
If so, I think the next step would be trying to figure out what file
is being "specified". To do that I would try using a /verbose switch
with that download on the command line. (If it is made with an older
technology the /v switch may have to be used instead.) Then if that
isn't enough I would run FileMon monitoring update expecting to see
either a missing file symptom or a permissions problem exposed.
