Whatever Windows version you're using, see if
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/en-us helps.

Freudi,
Help please. Add/Remove Programs does not provide me with the option to
Remove .NET Framework 1.1, even in Safe Mode. While in Add/Remove, when
selecting any other program the Remove button appears as an option, except
fof .NET Framework 1.1

Any suggestions? Thanks!

See the MSKB article KB923100 linked above. You'll have to download,
install and run the "Windows Installer Clean Up" tool mentionend in
the article an follow further steps one by one.

Thanks, I’m making progress… (I had run/installed the “Download Installer
CleanUp Utility”, but had not yet executed it via Start/All Programs/DICU)
and indeed upon reboot my .NET Framework 1.1 was gone.

Variation on the question – Since I no longer use the one application that
induced me to install .NET F’wk in the first place (i.e. now wanting to get
totally rid of .NET/F’wk)… and now that .N/F no longer appears in Add/Remove
Programs… how can I preclude Windows Update from insisting that I update what
supposedly no longer exists? (I’m familiar with ‘clicking on the box’ to
preclude WU from insisting on a certain update, but unfortunately that box
option does not show for the .N/F persistent ‘need to update’ notice.)

Thanks for taking the time to help me address this pesky annoyance!

I have had the same problem for months! This is what I got from tech support
and it fixed it....

From: Microsoft Windows Support Professional

From the case log, I understand that the Security Update for Microsoft .NET

By uninstalling the now unwanted .NET Framework version, see above.

T23, Thank you for posting the extensive info... Bottom line: Since my
purpose is to eradicate NET.Framework from my PC (don't need it anymore) in
order to preclude Windows Update from attempting-and-always-failing to update
NET.F... I opted to set WU to not remind me again of that update. NET.F has
now been removed from my PC, but somehow the residual garbage files and/or
Registry leftovers continue to cause WU to attempt a NET.F update.... (Why
bother ranting about Microsoft software...?

-------------------------
For the potential benefit of other readers I'll provide some pertinent detail.

Along with freudi's suggestions (above) I followed it step by step and then
arrived at the following.

> However, if any problem is encountered when trying to uninstall .NET
> Framework 1.1, we can also refer to the following Knowledge Base article to
> uninstall it manually.

Got through to the deleting of one NET.F folder... but then all the
instructions steered me into downloading more tools in order to repair
something I no longer need/want, thus I stopped there. The step after was to
modify the Registry and, while I've done a bit of that in the past i felt it
just wasn't worth it for me!

I'll now hope that when shutting down my Machine I won't get that reminder
to install update (in case there are worthy new ones).

Any further comments will be appreciated, otherwise I'll move on from this
topic.

Thanks!
