[NOTE: enu is for English. If your version of XP is a different
language, that will be the only thing different.
Same for x86 shown for KB933579. It will show as x64 for 64 bit versions
of XP]
Please post both logs, Jeremy. Perhaps we can figure out why the updates
failed to install.

PS:
I know i should probably goggle this, but how do you know that these are the
specific .LOG files that will be created? I try to install them again, i see
the numbers in the parenthesis. But is there a 'super' update file somewhere
i can access? Thanks?
services.msc
Click OK or press Enter
Locate the Background Intelligent Transfer Service [BITS]in the right frame.
Double click it and check the Startup type.
You could also attempt to manually download and SAVE both of the updates:
Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0
(KB936181)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=021E12F5-CB46-43DF-A2B8-185639BA2807
Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0
(KB933579)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=70C92E77-9E5A-41B1-A9D2-64443913C976
After the download completes close the browser and any other open programs.
Install KB936181 first, reboot if requested to
Then install KB933579, reboot if requested to
That will eliminate BITS from the update process as opposed to using
Automatic Updates to install them.

NO updates will install with the Windows Installer Disabled. It can be
set to Manual.

AFAIK, there's nothing else that uses BITS ... yet:
Write Auto-Updating Apps with .NET and the Background Intelligent
Transfer Service API

The ReportingEvents.log located in SoftwareDistribution shows all
successful updates.

That's wrong, as I've stated previously but gave no reference to <w>
The installation logs are helpful in troubleshooting specifically where
the update is failing to install.
Too bad Vista doesn't have them ...

Here is how I got my problem:
1) System boot up too slow .. It took like 10-12 mins to logon page.
2) My system is with SP3 but I only have WinXP with SP2. Therefore, I
decided to uninstall SP3 and then run a fix with SP2. It works well with my
plan and I managed to get rid of the slow start up or boot up to logon page.
3) After fixed it with SP2 cd, I try to update it online but it only allow

> I've a problem with windows updates too..
But not with one described in this very thread. So it would have been
a good idea to start your own thread on the issue you ran into - in
case the search function wouldn't have helped.
You may want to type "regsvr32 wups2.dll" into "Run" in the Start
menu and hit the [Enter] key or klick on OK. Afterwards restart
the Automatic Updates *services* (Start -> Run -> services.msc [Enter])
or restart Windows as a whole and see, if the issue is still present.
Bye,
Freudi

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
