where are windows update files stored?

Could anyone please tell me where windows update files are
stored on my windows 2000 system?

It doesn't really store them, it's just a temporary holding directory and those are deleted after installation. But if you're very
fast with copy and paste, you can copy the folders before they're deleted.

Look in your %systemroot%\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4\temp folder.

WindowsUpdate can be customized so that you can do the downloads
manually and save them for later installation. This way if you have to
reinstall your OS, you already have the updates on hand.
