I looked for solutions to the problem but have not yet found anything
that helps, although I have tried a whole bunch of things.

System:
Acer 3680 laptop with 2 GB RAM, Celeron 520 @ 1.6 GHz
Vista Home Basic with all patches except SP1
Windows Firewall
AVG free 7.5
SUPERAntispyware
Firefox
IE7
Office 2003
Acrobat 8 standard
Eudora paid 7.1.0.9
Bunch of oter software

Whenever I try to install Vista SP1 an error pops up, usually very soon,
KB 947266 error code 800B0100
The KB article suggests among other things to run (command prompt)
sfc /scannow
This aborts at 57% with the message "Windows Resource Protec tion could
not perform requested operation. This occurs also in safe mode without
running all the folderol that normally starts with windows.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I have perused these discussions, and have not found anything that helped
me. Sorry!

I mighthave to try this, since no other suggestions seem to apply. I
have been hesitant to because of other experiences (mainly from Verizon
tech support).

Does not seem to apply. There were 2 things that might have applied -
not enough disk space, but I cloned my laptop drive to a bigger one, and
now there is more than plenty space. (I also use PerfectDisk 2008 to
defrag). I also had a driver problem with the ethernet controller and/or
the wireless system on this Acer 3680-2633 with a Marvell Yukon ethernet
controller. However, that also seems to have been fixed now, and the
error persists. I don't know how to flush out logs, temp files and other
things left over from updates etc.

Does not apply to my case.

Thanks for trying to help!
