Vista or Vista SP1?

That error indicates an issue with Permissions. The issue may be caused by
an installed application or a hijackware infection.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed (e.g., Spybot
& Tea Timer)? What third-party firewall (if any)?

Please quote my entire post in your replies. Thank you.

Did you have this problem before you installed Vista SP1?

Did you install Vista SP1 via Windows Update or manually?

Were all components of AVG Internet Security running in the background when
you installed SP1?

I updated it by Windows update
I installed SP1 earily on in the year before i had AVG so AVG would not have
been running in the background
I was able to install updates even with SP! but recently windows update has
not let me install updates

Well, what anti-virus application, anti-syware application, and/or
third-party firewall was installed when you installed SP1 then?

Despite the presence of AVG Internet Security, I suspect you're seeing the
affects of a Vundo/ZLOB/SDBot infection, all of which is being protected by
a rootkit. So I'd recommend that you run a /thorough/ check for hijackware,
including posting your hijackthis log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Did you see : How to reset security settings back to the defaults

After checking your system for "Vundo/ZLOB/SDBot infection" you may wish to reset the
security settings.

The above notwithstanding, your log shows: the suggestion, at least, of
unsafe P2P File Sharing; the presence of an W32/Istbar-variant infection; an
incomplete uninstall of a McAfee application; a version of IE7 that dates
from the release of Vista Gold *over a year ago* and should NOT be found in
Vista SP1 (which suggests other problems, possibly related to your install
of Vista in Virtual Machine and a pirated version of Vista); and possibly a
compromised install of IE8 Beta 1.
