Error Code: 0x8024002D
means - a full-file patch failed because the source was required

If you were downloading a patch, repair Office install and try the patch again or try
installing the patch with the Office CD in the installation drive.

***** saw this, but I can't FIND to original office/works MSI
files!!!!!!!!!!! -- although I know they must BE here because I have to keep
saying "no" to "not clean them out" in disc cleanups, etc..... Heavens, I
don't KNOW where the original office/works CD is or WHICH one would have MS
Works on it....BUT i do know that since MS can "tell" I HAVE Works 8
installed [or it couldn't offer this update 3 times} THEN Microsoft should be
able to FIND the file it "needs to update" ON my computer! I don't understand
why they make this so difficult and time-consuming???

went online on MS technology site (all night long, basically) & found a
download where it offers a "fix" or "redownload" of Works8 "for limited time"
to correct security issues----- however, I have downloaded this huge program
twice, & when I get ready to install it--- it says (1) program signature is
invalid, or (2) program is not signed, publisher cannot be found..??? what
does this mean? I deleted it, refound it, made sure it was (or seems to be )
a microsoft site... redownloaded it.... no sig.... deleted it ... refound
it... rescanned it.... no signature........ WHAT's NEXT?? this has literally
wasted HOURs of my time??

Hi all,
I hope all my time spent will help others on this. It is fairly
ridiculous to me but maybe others aren't in a similar situation.

I had the same problems installing this update. After much riggamaroll
searching everywhere it turns out this Update as mentioned is for
Microsoft Works8. Having a new machine like most of you I assumed I had
Works8 installed.

I don't! It's Works 8.5.
This update is not needed and can be successfully just ignored or
hidden.

To find your version:(in vista anyway)
1) Click Start > All Programs > and then PC Help & Tools > Click
Recovery Manager.

The recovery manager welcome screen opens.

2) Click Next.
3) On the Software Program re-installation screen select Yes, and then
click Next.
4) On the Welcome screen, click Next.
5) Look for the Microsoft Works program and check if there is any
version number next to it.

If it 8.5 as mine was your done. Just ignore or hide the Update.

Now you'd think the update would recognize this but hey it's Microsoft.
It ain't ever easy.

Best of Luck...

Yes. Start a new thread, post if this is Vista 32 or 64 bit, which
Service Packs have been installed, and what update is throwing the error
code.
Then someone may assist you.

Hello,

To reply to an email I got with no return address...

hey i do have windows vista home premium but I cannot find PC help
and
tools, can u help me pls.

Thank you

The instructions I listed were given to me by an HP Tech for a HP
computer.

I am not sure how to find anything on your computer as you didn't list
a brand name. Maybe someone can reply further to what you are asking
or...

I'd also try Craigslist Discussion boards under "Computer" for the
easiest maybe fastest Q & A session. I really like these message boards
but beware there are some funny people (NOT) answering your questions
sometimes. Get a few answers and go from there.

I think in general from the replies I got at the time most people had
the higher version of Microsoft Works and didn't need this update. I
just chose to hide it as I was sure but I think you could hide it too
and not have any future worries. I can only think if you had the correct
version the update would go through.

Best of luck...
