Hi Jim,
Have you learned anything new, I am experiencing the same problem.
Thanks!
Lynen
No, sorry I haven't found anything to help me with this problem. I have
spent numerous hours on it, researching, asking websites for help, and not a
thing. I am finally just going to give up, since it is only 1 machine, and
format this silly laptop. If you hear anything within the next week, please
let me know and thanks.
Jim
Started when I tried to install Office 2007/Enterprise. It would not
install the whole thing due to
Local_Machine32\Software\Classes\Capicom.Settings.1\CLSID. Error 1402;
Cannot open registry key.
So I went instead and tried a custom -installed the most needed
portions. INSTALLED FINE the custom selections, EXCEPT then the Windows
Installer loaded EVERYTIME I opened a program and CONFIGURED FOR UP 5
MINUTES each time; everytime, every Office program!
Found LOTS of help, including Windows Installer Cleaner, and even
Microsoft instructions on setting permissions and such in the registry
and in the Office Data files ..plus:
Windows Installer Cleanup http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
TroubleShoot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us
Enabled Logging: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=223300
And the one I thought would work, followed steps 1 & 4:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838687/en-us
I must have messed something up. Now I cannot install anything that
uses Windows Installer (ie, VistaManager-3rd party great program!) on my
latest Admin User account (I have multiple personalities, LOL, clients
each have own desktop-user account to keep work organized). Have
installed it on the other 3 users perfectly before all this. Message:
capicom.dll failed to register HRESULT 2147352567.
Seems these are related somehow, both having this "capicom" connection
- and I must have caused more damage trying to fix Error 1402 to install
Office 2007, since before I could at least install programs that used
Windows Installer.
OS: Vista-64, brand new laptop, been loading all my software with no
problems and problems started installing Office 2007 Enterprise
(previously had Office XP Prof w/Frontpage-2002). I keep UAC turned off,
and I went and set permissions to Everyone Full Control on every folder
Windows would allow me to. (I work at home and live alone, so I could
care less right now about security).
No luck, just more problems.
Thanks - been reading through these forums, and gleaning information.
A little knowledge is dangerous I guess.
:)
