Security update (KB954430) and Error code: 0x643

I have tried to install the following update for about a week now, but it
fails every single time.. I don't know what's the problem.

Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 -security update (KB954430).
The update fails and I get error code 0x643.. I'm running Windows XP Home
edition SP2. Can somebody help me with this issue?

I'm getting the same error code 0x643 on a failed update of Security Update
for Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366). I'm
running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and 3 installed. What do I need to do
to be able to install this update, or to completely reinstall Framework?

But you're not getting the error when attempting to install KB954430 so your
problem isn't the same, is it?

That being said...

1. Write down what .NET Framework versions are already installed before you
go uninstalling/removing any of them!

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied

2. Now see Resolutions Methods 1 or 2 in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 (ignore the title).

Which of those two parts in your answer are resolutions to my problem, or
both?? Because my problem seems to be different than wphillip's problem.

My guess - "DaLipton" is replying to you (at least in thread view) and
asking you if any part of your answer to "wphillips" (who did hijack the

Considering the fact that I'd snipped all but wphillips' post in my reply,

Well, I just want an answer to my first message question.. forget about
wphillips who kinda messed up my thread :P

I don't think my problem has anything to do with .new framework?? or does
it? did you answer to wphillip's or my question, i was confused about that.
