Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and scroll down
to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix.

Then download and install SP3 directly. Download the "Full File" titled:
OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fulefile-enu.exe (58925 KB).

Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Don't know how to make this work - followed the path below - what am I
supposed to do with the kellys-korner output?

Thanks for this suggestion but did not help - I did exactly as suggested re
Item No.171 and then downloaded and installed SP3 directly, downloading the
Full File. I even tried rebooting to see if that made any difference as
regards the Registy entries and then downloaded SP# directly...-Still
'No-Go'....

Still got the same error messages and request to install Xp with
Frontpage...Had to abort installation.

After many hours of fighting, I manage to restore the system to a time (2
months ago) directly before the computer first attempted to download and
install the update automatically.

I have now had to amend the Automatic Update settings to only 'advise of
updates' (without downloading or installing) because once it attempts to
install, then the damage is done and despite the update failing, it still
causes Excel errors.

So, I system restored back 2 months, switched off Auto Updates and finally,
Excel now works OK.
I don't have automatic updates anymore, but in the circumstances, this is
probably best.

I can't believe after reading a posted solution by 'Sigmund' - it still
didn't 'click' with me that the CD which my computer was prompting for during
installation of SP3 was "Office-XP with Frontpage" and not "Windows XP
Professional" Operating System CD - I kept on loading up the XP Professional
CD and getting the message that 'the required file could not be found'.
When it finally dawned on me (today) that the CD I needed was 'Office XP
with Frontpage' not "Windows XP....", I re-tried the installation and when
prompted, put in the correct CD and - no problem - SP3 installed without a
problem.
Thanks Sigmund - I'll try drinking a cup of coffee next time I'm reading the
communities solutions, so I'm more awake....

Hi Shannie,

Microsoft, out-of-nowhere, just shipped me the "Office Project / Office
Visio DVD," after I joined Microsoft Office. My entire experience with
Microsoft has been, IF YOU ASK THEM for something, THEY WILL GIVE it to you;
within reason, of course.
I find the best way to accomplish this is to go down into the FEEDBACK BOX,
and send them your comments, suggestions or requests. Go for it!

Good Luck!
Donna
