Have Vista Ultimate 32 bit, SP2, installed.
In the last 2 months, 3 updates did not succeed. Unfortunately, I remarked
this only now and my system restore points do not go beyond the point in time
the error started to occur.
I have been running CheckSUR, which reported the following issues:

Error message when you try to use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web
sites to install updates: "0x800B0100":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed Vista SP2?
Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?
Proceeded as indicated in the link above and succeded and in fact, the
issues are resolved.
Many thanks for the assistance!
