HELP! Can not apply SP6a

I get the following error and have no idea why:

"Service Pack Setup could not determine whether you are running Windows NT
Workstation or Windows NT Server." OK

...and then setup exits.

How can I get around this? What might have caused it?

Resolution:

I found and downloaded NTSwitch -- a utility that can be used to switch
workstation to server and vica versa. Since this is an NT server and for
some reason had lost knowledge of itself, I ran that utility and told it to
make this a server again. After that, everything worked properly.
