My NT Server 4.0 is for whatever reason shutting its self down (rebooting).
This will happen at various times during the day. It even happens at night
when the server has no activity at all, just idling along.

Is there a log file that I can view other than event viewer that might lead
me to resolve this. Or can I create a log service.

There are no error messages in the event viewer that are helpful to resolve
this. The only error that I receive is that the servers last shut down was
unexpected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!

Go into the Startup-Shutdown Tab and set your server to write an event to
the event log.....the box is crashing and you need to know the parameters in
order to troubleshoot the situation.
If you have the disk space available you can set the system to create a
Memory dump file (same size as your physical Ram) and then Microsoft can
read the dump file(only they have access to the source code)
for you and give you the answer as to what is causing the crash.
I would look at any changes that have been made recently ....updated
drivers...or outdated drivers...new SW/HW....take the Drivers.exe from the
resource kit ....put it on the server ...then run it from a command prompt
and pipe it to a text file ....this will give you an output of all drivers
on the server ....you can then look at the dates ...and see if there are any
....out of date .
