URGENT: does anyone know if an Iomega Ditto Max 7GB ext will work on
NT4?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Iomega Ditto Max 7gb external tape drive will
work "out of the box" with windows NT 4? I have a client who is
sending me a lot of data on a ditto max 7gb tape and I have ordered
the drive - but the iomega site only mentions the win95/win31
software.

H E L P ! !

TIA.

I have a Ditto Max 7Gb drive working fine with WINNT 4 WS SP3. NT Drivers
are on the CD Driver Disk, If you have autoplay running it will install the
correct drivers for you.
However the Flashfile function doesn't work on NT!!

I Hope this helps.

Ben.

Hi,
I've just ordered Iomega Ditto Tools NT which is supposed to support
external tape drives on NT4. Haven't received it yet so can't say for sure.
Price is only $16.99 from Insight.

NO IT DOES NOT, the slimes at IOMEGA, dont have the software to make it work,
rumor has it, it has not even been developed yet. I end up booting to win95
to make full backups and backup the registry, etc, manually.

I bought the Ditto Pro (Internal) which comes with NT tools. I was unable to
get it to work until Iomega finally talked to me on the phone. The internal
model comes with the accelerator card which was a fixed IRQ. They sent me a new
accelerator card (the card stamped Feb 2, 1998) and I was able to configure the
IRQ.

Iomega's support was lousy to me. They didn't answer email, I had long waits on
the phone and the first thing they asked was, "Gimme your credit card number."
Geezzzzz.

Don't expect to use NT Backup. You must use the Iomega NT tools.
Anyway, after the frustration I'm able to perform full backups, incremental and
differential. To backup 3G of information (with verification) it takes me
roughly five hours; on a Dell Pentium II 233Mhz, 64M RAM (ECC).

I can't say that I would recommend the Ditto.

Hi,
I actually found NT drivers for my parallel port Ditto. Works great with
the NT Backup program. Still have not received the Iomega Ditto Tools NT
yet. My hope is that, like they advertise, I can read the data files from
my Win95 backup tapes.

I hope you are right, I ordered mine > 2 months ago, and i finally got someone
on the phone to say, "its not available yet, and dont when it will be"

just my experience, you might want to call them and see if they shipped
already, or are just "waiting" for the product.
