It is easy. I've got two that work now. What did you do and what was the
response?

How did you add the second card? Need more info.

Have you tried the new nic on another NT box (or any other box, for that
matter) to see if it is, in fact, a nic that works?

Cheers,
Craig

ugh... now everything is f@&$ed up! I will try to remember everything I
have done and tried...

1) shut down machine, add new NIC

2) restart machine, run config program to setup NIC

3) restart again. rclick network, choose properties, go to Adapters, I see
one card.

4) try to add 2nd NIC... click add, choose proper adapter, point to inf
file, get error message "Registry Service subkey already exists" and then

when I click ok, I get "Unable to access Services subkey in Registry".

5) uninstall all adapters, shut down machine, remove both cards, restart
machine. Error message "unable to find primary domain controller" duh...
no network card.

6) shut down machine, reinstall both cards, restart... same error message,
and also the error message about one or more services... look at event
viewer, see this "The 3Com Etherlink III Adapter Driver service failed to
start due to the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning."

7) tried to manually install cards (rclick network, adapters tab, add), got
same error as before ... "Registry Service subkey already exists" and then

when I click ok, I get "Unable to access Services subkey in Registry".

8) since no adapters were installed, I opened regedit and went to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services, saw the elnk31 and
removed it.

9) reboot. Error messages about PDC and services again... rclick network,
adapters tab, add, and this time I was able to install both cards. However,
when I went to the bindings tab, no adapters were displayed. I could not
setup TCP/IP at all. When I go to Protocols and highlight TCP/IP and click
properties, nothing happens.

10) remove NIC#2, shut down AGAIN (this is getting monotonous... ) remove
the card.

11) same error messages, same problems when it comes back up. I have
removed the adapters and TCP/IP at least 5 or 6 times since then. I cannot
even get this machine back on the network.

I am still new to NT, so if I ask a stupid question don't laugh to loud...
but shouldn't NT autodetect new hardware?

Any ideas at all would be GREATLY appreciated. I am to the point now where
I am ready to reinstall NT. I cannot figure out what to do next.

TIA...
