I have NT 4.0 server and back office small business server 4.5. I'm running
Exchange server and IIS as well.

I updated the latest SP 6, and everything came back fine.

Then I did the security update, and now it boots up to the point of the log
in screen, then it seems like it crashes at the point where it's loading one
of the services. IOW, I get the "ctrl alt del" to log in message, and
shortly thereafter I get a blue screen of death with a memory dump and the
following message:

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Address (number) has a base at (number) -
ntoskernel.exe

I tried the rescue disk but it appears something is wrong with one of the
disks :(.

I think I'm at a chicken and egg since I can't get in to remove the update.

Any suggestions appreciated. I looked in the knowledge base and can't find
anything which would point me in the right direction to even know what's
causing the problem.

FYI for the group,

Fixed it by installing a parallel version of NT Workstation.

Then found that the update programs does a pretty good job of leaving what
it has done behind. In the Windows directory it left a $ntuninstallq29944$
directory and in there was uninst.inf whch listed all of the files it
replaced from where, and also left the replaced files in that directory, so
it was a matter of creating a bat file to copy them all back.

Now to figure out why the IIS update didn't work.....
