I have a computer for my grandkids, four of them. I have set up an email
address for each and an in basket that receives incoming based on email
name.

In Mail is there any way to require a password for each email address so
that only each kid can open only mail addressed to him of have some kind of
security for each inbox?

No. The only way to do that would be to have individual user accounts for
each kid, so they would have to log on as themselves as a user and then
access their mail account. There is no way to segregate them otherwise.
There is my WMIDs program that will segregate the mail as in OE, but there
is no password protecting the message store (www.oehelp.com/WMIDs/)
